INCLUSIVE PROJECT

ACCESS TO WATER FOR ALL

Presentation of the Aqua-Aare Team

The Aqua-Aare team is proud to present an innovative and necessary project aimed at providing access to water for people of all ages and abilities. We begin this important dialogue by asking a fundamental question: What is the importance of water in our lives? Beyond its vital necessity, what other dimensions of well- being and emotional connection does this fundamental element offer us?

The Swiss Context and the Importance of Water

Switzerland, with its rich mountainous landscape, crystal-clear rivers, tranquil lakes, and lush forests, proves to be a privileged setting to explore our relationship with water. In a world marked by stress and the hustle and bustle of modern life, these landscapes offer refuge and renewal. In every season, we seek places where we can disconnect and strengthen our psychological balance, escaping from the daily routine.

The Charm of the Canton of Bern and the River Aare

At the heart of this experience lies the canton of Bern, where the Aare River becomes the epicenter of aquatic activity. The well-known route from Thun to Bern attracts crowds in summer, who enjoy various activities along its banks: swimming, drifting, quiet reading, or simple contemplation. The connection with water is deeply ingrained in the local culture, giving the city of Bern a special summer bliss.

Human Fascination with Water

The innate attraction of human beings to water has been the subject of numerous scientific studies. This affinity goes beyond the physical and delves into the emotional: the blue mind, as some describe it. The presence of large bodies of water gives us a sense of peace and inner balance, reducing stress and promoting mental clarity. Being close to water makes us feel alive, confident, and ultimately happier.

Inclusion and Accessibility: The Aareboot Project

Our project aims to democratize access to water through the activity known as Aareboot, which involves floating on the Aare River. Although this experience is widely enjoyed, it is currently limited to people without motor disabilities. We aim to change that. In collaboration with experts in water sports activities, we have designed an inclusive experience that allows people with reduced mobility to fully enjoy the Aare.

Location

The activity will usually take place at Wohlensee. In special cases and after prior agreement with the group, it is possible to change the location to another lake. There is also the possibility of sailing on certain sections of the Aare that have already been tested and are completely safe for our activity.

Technical Details and Safety

The activity will take place on specially adapted and tested stand-up paddle boards (SUP) to ensure safety. These have dimensions of 4.57 meters in length by 1.82 meters in width and a load capacity of up to 800 kilograms, ensuring optimal buoyancy.

Life jackets are specially designed for wheelchair users and provide additional buoyancy compared to traditional life jackets for river activities.

Each group will be accompanied by a professional and certified guide, an expert in water sports activities and first aid, who will coordinate the route according to the needs and abilities of the participants.

Conclusion: Well-being, Joy, and New Experiences

Our goal goes beyond offering a mere leisure activity; it is about promoting inclusion, well-being, and connection with nature. At the end of the day, we aspire for each participant to take away unforgettable memories of a day full of fascinatingexperiences and, above all, the feeling of having been part of something truly unique.

Join us on this exciting adventure towards a more inclusive and water-connected future!
