This route, less known than the Thun to Bern route but no less beautiful, offers us a different view of summer life in Bern, the capital of Switzerland. We start the tour in the lower town of the old town (Schwellemätteli), along the course of the river. Along the way, we have the opportunity to admire some historical sites of the city, such as the Untertorbrücke, also known as the Untertor. This bridge, the oldest still preserved in Bern, has been rebuilt several times and was once the only one crossing the Aare river near Bern. The tour continues through some popular neighborhoods of Bern, such as Lorraine, with its old breweries, and finally ends at the hydroelectric plant at the end of the district. After this section, the landscape changes drastically, as the nature of the river is much less channeled than in the upper part of the Aare, giving us a pleasant feeling of freedom until we reach our starting point in Neubrügg, the oldest wooden bridge still preserved in Bern, located in the lower part of the municipality of Bremgarten in Kirchlindach in the Berner Neufeld district.
